Job Description:

Position Summary:

Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs/activities in relation to Social Emotional Learning for Club youth ages 4-13.

AmeriCorps Summary:

AmeriCorps members agree to complete a term of National Service; as they support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee programming and receive a set living allowance. Upon successful completion of this term of service, AmeriCorps members are eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. AmeriCorps SEL Coaches develop and implement social emotional curriculum and activities, and act as behavior/celebration coaches for youth.

Responsibilities:

  • In person and/or virtually provide Club staff and families with engaging SEL activities.
  • Collaborate across programs to ensure SEL skills are embedded throughout Club programming.
  • Assist staff or families in building systems and incentives for celebrating positive behavior of youth.
  • Establish and maintain a rapport with staff and parents.
  • Encourage emotional, social, and educational growth of individual youth.
  • Implement and participate in programs, projects, and special events related to SEL and/or COVID-related alternative service, to be preapproved.
  • Meet all deadlines related to AmeriCorps member requirements.
  • Assist in the development, acquisition and maintenance of program materials.
  • Provides support to the Club sites with outcome goals and objectives based on needs of youth, families, and community.
  • Participate in trainings including Trauma Informed Care, SEL programs, and other opportunities as appropriate.
  • Create reports and supply materials requested by Boys & Girls Clubs of America related to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee’s social-emotional programming.
  • Generate bi-weekly, quarterly, and/or annual reports as requested.
  • Assist with monitoring of data collection of AmeriCorps Inspire HOPE programming.
  • Provide guidance and direction to youth in the areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, and civic and community engagement.

Experience and Skills

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Must provide proof of citizenship, as required by AmeriCorps.
  • Must pass all background check requirements, including fingerprint screening.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience with youth programs preferred.

Skills:

  • Enjoys working with youth ages 4-13 years old.
  • Group management.
  • Ability to take direction and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to ensure quality service in both in-person and remote environments.
  • Self-motivated and able to be creative and flexible in changing circumstances.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse population.
