Job Summary:
Responsible for developing mental health referral linkages and
processes for TPP project participants in need of care; facilitating
relationships between BGCGM and school and/or community-based mental
health providers; assuring ongoing staff training in mental
health-related topics including trauma-responsive service delivery;
and arranging consultations for educators, as necessary, with
community mental health providers re: mental health concerns with
project participants.
Responsibilities
- Assess mental health-related training needs of project staff on an
ongoing basis
- Arrange for and organize professional training of project staff by
outside mental health professionals, including identifying and
recruiting appropriate trainers, to include topics such as:
- Trauma-responsive service delivery
- How to identify signs/indications that youth participants may
need mental health and/or substance abuse services
- Suicide awareness and prevention
- Distinguishing Mental Health Needs vs. "Ages & Stages";
- De-Escalation Strategies;
- Interventions for Challenging Behavior
- Other topics based on assessment of training needs
- Develop and maintain referral relationships with school mental
health providers as well as community mental health providers who
specialize in treating youth
- Develop processes for making referrals of project youth for mental
health assessment and treatment; and document them in written polices/procedures
- Train project staff on referral processes
- Work with BGCGM Marketing Department and/or other BGCGM
departments to promote awareness of mental health issues and
services for project participants, parents/caregivers, and the
public at large.
- Assist staff in making referrals to the appropriate mental health
provider based on the circumstances for each individual youth in
need of services
- Assist in documentation of and follow-up to referrals
- Attend networking meetings of value/relevance to mental; health
needs of youth
- Work with project evaluator to develop, track, and analyze program
quality outcome measures
